This series represents a move to create smaller more intimate panels. Yet, despite the small size and subtle palette, I sought to convey a sense of dramatic motion to the overall series. Seen separately, the details and layers become apparent. Seen as a grouping, the dynamism of each piece adds to the overall effect of the movement of a bird in flight. While my initial intention was not necessarily to depict a corporeal being, it turns out, the many Ravens you find in the Bay Area may just have influenced me more than I had thought. Certainly, the flight of these birds—they somersault in flight and even fly upside down—is as intriguing as their other amazing behaviors. So as an ode to these intelligent, beautiful birds, I have thus named this series of small, but powerful panels, “Raven’s Flight.”
